Congratulations to Kate Cheun (Year 10 Textiles Technology) on her award of ‘Runner Up’ in the Year 10 category of the 2019 Wool4School Competition. OLMC Year 10 Textiles Technology students enter this competition as a part of their studies in fashion illustration and fibre technologies.

This international design competition encourages problem solving, creative thinking, innovation and STEM skills. The design brief was to design an innovative garment that uses at least 80% wool fabric and incorporates the use of technology. Kate’s brilliant outfit really impressed the judges, noting that Kate’s submission was “a delight to judge”.

Kate’s design solution, a technologically advanced unisex outfit, was inspired by nature and designed for an adventurer to wear in their outdoor pursuits. It featured merino wool fabrics with reflective technologies and wind resistance, together with hand warmers, enabling the wearer to enjoy their outdoor activities whilst adapting to harsh, unpredictable weather conditions. Kate’s outfit was even designed to be machine washable!

Congratulations Kate – we are very proud of this outstanding achievement!
